Academics

Our Academics

At Dolores T. Richardson School, our academic program is thoughtfully designed to support the development of the whole child. We believe strong academics go hand in hand with social, emotional, and character growth. Our curriculum is structured to meet students where they are developmentally while preparing them for future academic success.

We serve students across two divisions—Lower School and Upper School—each offering an engaging, age-appropriate learning experience.

Lower School Division

Elementary School (Grades K-3)

Our Lower School program focuses on building strong academic foundations in literacy, mathematics, and critical thinking within a nurturing classroom environment. Students benefit from consistent routines, hands-on learning experiences, and individualized support that fosters confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.

Upper School Division

Elementary School (Grades 4-6)

Our Upper School program introduces students to a middle school–style learning model that promotes independence, responsibility, and academic readiness. Students transition between subject-specific classes throughout the day, including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. This structure allows students to learn from specialized teachers while developing organizational skills and confidence in navigating a more advanced academic setting.

Through this intentional progression, students are well-prepared for the expectations of middle school and beyond.

Before & After School Care

At Dolores T. Richardson School, our before- and afterschool programs are designed to support families while providing students with a safe, structured, and engaging environment beyond the classroom. These programs help students start and end their day successfully, while offering enrichment opportunities that nurture both academics and personal growth.

Before School Care

Our Before School Care program is available starting at 6:30 AM, giving families a flexible early drop-off option before the academic day begins at 8:00 AM.

Students are welcomed into a calm, supervised environment where they can enjoy quiet activities, socialize with peers, and prepare for the school day.

This program provides peace of mind to parents knowing their child is safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Afterschool Care (Extended Day Program)

Our Afterschool Care program provides a structured and engaging environment for students after the school day ends. Students can take part in:

  • Academic support and tutoring

  • Sports and fitness activities such as basketball

  • Creative expression including dance

  • Mindfulness and meditation

Designed with flexibility in mind, the program supports working families while promoting student growth, social interaction, and well-being. We continue to expand our offerings so every student has opportunities to explore new interests and develop new skills.

At DTRS, our before- and afterschool programs reflect our commitment to providing a nurturing, enriching environment that supports both students and families.
